Blue Bell Creamery - Brenham, TX

There is nothing quite like a visit to an ice creamery where you can sample the ice cream as it is being made on the spot. Of course, that is if you go on a day when they are in operation! That being said, we (our friend Dave joined us) did see the film of the operation but no actual tours were on for the day we chose as they do not work every week day at the present time. Still were able to get a little sample of their ice cream in the gift shop. The drive was nice and we all enjoyed ourselves even if we did pick the wrong day!

Inside pics

A glance at bathroom to see we now have molded sink which we love. Not sure about the black but seems to be ok. Other view is of mirror next to dinette. Lower cupboard opens but not much storage and cannot be accessed with slide in.... oh well

Interior of the "new digs"

The fridge grew to 4 doors and the bedroom has large closet in slide out... Incidently there is a small freezer in under ground storage for those who need more freezer / cooler space. Hard to see headboard in bedroom but designed as a mantle with mirror above and that is tv hanging from ceiling in bedroom.

Moving Week

It has now been a few days since we actually signed the paperwork and made the actual "physical" move from the Bounder to our new 2002 Alfa "See Ya". Not sure what it is about Texas that brings this out in us but yes, it has happened again.

The only other time we were in Texas was winter of 2001/2002 and we ended up trading our 1998 Bounder for a 2001 Bounder and now we have moved from that into this coach. Although the length is actually larger and it is heavier and has two slide outs it has been a test to find spots for all our belongings!

Our friend Dave Maule has been with us through this whole ordeal and bless his heart he has been a true blessing! If it weren't for him we would probably still be at the dealer's doing the transfer. He has really been great and we feel so fortunate to have him here with us.

It will be a few more days before hallways are clear and photos can actually be taken to share.

Meanwhile, stay safe and we'll see ya down the road...

Gonzales, Texas

A recent outing took us to Gonzales, TX where it all began! At least that is what "they" claim. Their flag says "Come and Take it". That was made for Santa Ana's benefit. Wonderful court house here on the edge of town square. I just love it as I do many of the unique courthouses to Texas. This one is a working courthouse and we had fun climbing stairs although we could not get very far. ha! The town square is pretty well closed down with Wal-mart on the outskirts of town but still a fun place to stop and see. There is also a driving tour here and the folks at the Chamber of Commerce are friendly and helpful.

Schulenburg, Texas

Gateway to the tour of Painted Churches! This was one of my favorite. There are 4 churches on this tour and they aren't actually in the town of Schulenburg as they would have you believe. They are in separate little towns surrounding Schulenburg. It was interesting to see the various churches. All but one had elaborate stained glass windows which I love.

Columbus, Texas

For now we are located here midway between Houston and San Antonio in the small town of Columbus, TX. Our campground is placed right along the Colorado River and although it appears to have a bit of water we can see up close that the river is quite shallow. Pretty park dotted with deer in the early morning hours and at dusk. Not as friendly as the deer in medina but fun to see just the same. So many birds here and of course there are two trees blanketed with the vultures in the early evening hours until the daily call to go out to work comes in the morning and they depart one by one for their daily scan of the skies... Love it! There is nothing quite like it that we have ever known. Of course it is the same with Peace River down in Florida but so fun to see.
Plan to be here until Monday when we will venture north of Houston to Lake Conroe. Our friend Dave is here with us from CT so that makes it a bit more fun too.

Happy New Year 2008!

January 1, 2008 and it is clear and sunny so far today. This is our last day here at this lovely park. There was a great party here last night. They had a wonderful band and the place was packed. A heck of a lot of fun. We did not wait up to watch the clock strike 12 but heard all the fireworks going off anyway. Tomorrow we are off in effort to get transmission work done on rig. Then over to Colorado River, TTN in Columbus, TX for a bit.

Oh - Deer!

We are now starting on our 3rd 50lb bag of deer pellets! ha! Yes, the deer have really taken to this stuff as you can see. "Big Daddy" even warmed up enough to Earl to eat out of the bowl. "Baby" loves all the attention and will come to me now when I call. This baby is so small that when there are about 20 deer all scavaging about it gets lost in the crowd but when I call it proudly walks right through the crowd and come right to me. Of course I do usually reward it with a bit of carrot or apple core! ha! No waste here when it comes to veggie scraps. The deer are better than rabbits - and we do have some of them too although they are more scarce.

Christmas Day 2007, Medina Lake, TX

Christmas day was sunny and clear and cool. We joined about 200 others at the park and had a great potluck dinner. Folks on one side of us were from Anacortes, WA and the other side were from New Orleans. This guy was a chef and brought jambalaya! Wow! What a dish.

Majestic Theater - San Antonio, TX

This holiday we sort of tagged along with friends Bob & Sharon for an afternoon treat at the Symphony at the lovely historical Majestic Theater in downtown San Antonio. What a marvelous way to really "catch" the spirit of the season! We all enjoyed it immensely. Afterwards we walked along the famous Riverwalk here in town and imbibed a bit at a lively Mexican restaurant! A fun time was had by all...

San Antonio, Texas

A visit to the fair town of San Antonio would not be complete I guess unless it includes a visit to the Alamo. The day was picture perfect and the grounds of this mission are very nice. We did not spent too much time here since we have been there before but wanted to look for some info at their library.
